In this article I will describe the steps for transferring files and settings using its own CD Windows XP on a machine with Windows 98. The Wizard Files and Settings Transfer does not transfer programs (eg Office), but only your settings. This procedure is useful when you want to format a machine or when you are upgrading to Windows XP and want to keep your files and settings intact.
To transfer files and settings from one machine running Windows 98, perform the procedures described below:
1. Insert the Windows XP computer with Windows 98
2. Then the autorun runs and you will see the figure below:
3. Click "Perform additional tasks"

4. Soon after click on "Transfer files and settings" as shown below:

5. This opens the Welcome screen of the wizard. This section is informational only. Click the Next button to continue the wizard. (Figure below)

6. In this step the wizard is preparing to proceed with the transfer (Figure below)

7. Soon after the wizard opens a window where you will be informed as the method of transfer of files and settings. Choose the desired option and click Next (Figure below)

8. In this option you can choose three options you want to make the transfers, including: settings only, files only or Files and Settings. Choose the methods that you want and click the Next button
Note: When you click the option "What do you want to transfer?" Note that the right is shown what is transferred in each selected option. You can also (customize) choose only what you want to transfer files and settings by clicking on "Let me select a list of files and custom settings when you click forward "(Figure below)

9. Soon afterwards when you click the Next button, will run the transfer procedure as shown below:

10. Following completion of the transfer window will be displayed as shown below:
